MFA: Montenegrin citizens in Sicily advised to request rebooking on the first available flight and check travel options via alternative airports
Due to volcanic ash in the airspace, a large number of flights from Catania Airport have been cancelled or diverted. Citizens are therefore advised to check the status of their flight with their travel agency or airline before heading to the airport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said it is monitoring the situation caused by increased activity of Mount Etna and disruptions to air traffic in Sicily, particularly at Catania Airport. It advised Montenegrin citizens whose flights have been cancelled to immediately contact their travel agency or airline and request rebooking on the first available flight, as well as to check the possibility of travelling via alternative airports in Sicily, particularly Palermo and Comiso airports.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises citizens to follow official information from the relevant Italian authorities, airports, travel agencies and airlines - the ministry said.
It added that the situation caused by Mount Etna’s activity and the presence of volcanic ash in the airspace is changing from hour to hour, meaning decisions on airport closures and reopenings may change at short notice.
- Due to the presence of volcanic ash in the airspace, a large number of flights from Catania Airport have been cancelled or diverted. Citizens are therefore advised to check the status of their flight with their travel agency or airline before heading to the airport - the MFA emphasized.
In such situations, the ministry noted, priority should be given to passenger rebooking options provided by airlines, as well as alternative airports and ground transportation.
- If, due to a prolonged disruption to air traffic, Montenegrin citizens find themselves unable to leave Sicily, they may contact the Embassy of Montenegro in Rome, as well as the Honorary Consulates of Montenegro in Tuscany and Bari, for information and consular assistance within the scope of their respective competences - the statement added.
