It is no longer a question of whether we will become a member of the European Union, but what kind of a country Montenegro will be when that happens - said the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović.

- If we have so far been inclined to postpone facing key challenges, there are no more excuses - we must confront them for the sake of our citizens - Milatović said at the Anti-Corruption Forum.

Unlike some other decision-makers, he added, he was against the idea of Montenegro as a crypto haven.

- It is crucial that we build mechanisms to protect the state system. Montenegro should focus more strongly on building a knowledge-based economy, rather than a real-estate-driven economy. Strengthening institutions and the rule of law is necessary - said Milatović.

It is particularly important, he emphasized, that in a world of disinformation, decision-makers themselves do not spread it.

- Regarding the laws on internal affairs and the National Security Agency, the Government claimed that their adoption was necessary to close Chapter 24. It has been established that this is not true, which was also confirmed by the EU - Milatović stated.

According to him, the case of the fugitive son of the President of the Supreme Court, Miloš Medenica, is also evidence that disinformation is being spread by decision-makers.

- As well as the disinformation related to the incident in Zabjelo, where inaccurate information was disseminated that turned the public against Turkish citizens - Milatović said.
