First Order of Independence awarded posthumously to Branko Lukovac

Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović posthumously awarded the Order of Independence to Branko Lukovac, the dean of Montenegrin diplomacy, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, and coordinator of the Movement for an Independent and European Montenegro.
Milatović organized the ceremony for awarding state decorations on the occasion of Montenegro’s Independence Day at the Presidential Residence in Cetinje, reports Antena M.
- History will remind us that the tradition of awarding decorations stretches far into the past. Montenegro was defended and built with both sword and pen. In different eras, that spark ignited the flame of freedom. This year’s award ceremony carries special symbolism given the significance of May 21. It is my particular pleasure to award, for the first time, the Order of Independence, which is granted for special contribution and affirmation, and I award it to Branko Lukovac, the dean of Montenegrin diplomacy - Milatović stated.
The Order of the Montenegrin Flag, First Degree, was posthumously awarded to Don Branko Sbutega, while the Order of the Montenegrin Flag, Second Degree, was awarded to basketball player Nikola Vučević.
The Order of the Montenegrin Flag, Second Degree, was also awarded to the band Perper and handball player Jovana Radičević.
