Milatović appeals to the Ministry of Culture and Media: FIAT should be granted the status of an event of special importance to Montenegro’s culture

President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović has appealed to the Ministry of Culture and Media to grant the International Festival of Alternative Theatre (FIAT) the status of an event of special importance to the culture of Montenegro.

- The International Festival of Alternative Theatre - FIAT has earned a special place in Montenegrin culture over the course of several decades. FIAT is much more than a festival programme. It is a space of artistic freedom where generations of artists have grown, found their artistic expression and gained the courage to push boundaries, while audiences have learned to recognise the different, the contemporary and the bold - Milatović said in his address to the public.

He noted that the festival’s artistic identity is also rooted in the legacy of its founder, theatre director Slobodan Milatović, one of the pioneers of alternative theatre in Montenegro.

- By creating a space for encounters between local and international artists, FIAT has made a strong contribution over the decades to shaping the contemporary artistic scene and connecting Montenegrin culture with international currents. Therefore, I am issuing a public appeal to the Ministry of Culture and Media to grant FIAT the status of an event of special importance to the culture of Montenegro - Milatović stressed.

He noted that this would be a well-deserved institutional recognition of the festival’s longevity, artistic contribution and significance, as well as of the people who have spent decades creating, preserving and developing it.

- A festival alongside which generations of artists and audiences have grown deserves the attention, support and treatment that will enable future generations to flourish on its stage as well - Milatović said.
