The President of the Supreme Court, Valentina Pavličić, has requested the dismissal of the President of the Court of Appeal, Mirjana Popović.

As stated in the announcement, Pavličić submitted the proposal for dismissal to all members of the Judicial Council on Friday.

It is recalled that the President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro submitted a document to the Judicial Council on Friday for further action and decision-making, following a complaint filed by judges and civil servants of the Court of Appeal of Montenegro regarding the work of that court’s president.

The document, as stated, was prepared in accordance with the provisions of the Law on the Judicial Council and Judges, following a conducted procedure during which the allegations from the complaint were reviewed.

The President of the Court of Appeal told „Vijesti“ that she was not aware that the President of the Supreme Court had submitted the document to the Judicial Council and that she was not familiar with its contents.

- If a proposal for dismissal has been submitted, I believe there are no grounds for it. I have carried out and continue to carry out my duties with exceptional dedication, diligence, and in accordance with the law, taking care of what is my primary responsibility - the timely, lawful, and efficient functioning of the court, which is ultimately demonstrated by the results achieved by this court - Popović told „Vijesti“.

She announced that in the morning she would submit a letter to the Judicial Council requesting that they provide her with the document of the President of the Supreme Court for review and response, as well as all statements from the complainants.

- I believe I have the right to respond to all of this, and I would have much to say. So far, the Supreme Court has only requested from me the submission of a decision related to the installation of video surveillance in the court corridors. I have submitted all the related documentation - said Popović, as reported by „Vijesti“.

Pavličić acted at the request of the Judicial Council

The Supreme Court noted that Pavličić’s actions followed a request from the Judicial Council.

- After receiving the complaint, the Judicial Council requested that the President of the Supreme Court collect relevant information, carry out a comprehensive analysis of the allegations in order to establish the facts, and report back to the Judicial Council. Acting upon this request, the President of the Supreme Court asked the judges and civil servants of the Court of Appeal to further specify the allegations and circumstances from the complaint, to the extent possible, in order to fully clarify the facts - the statement reads.

At the same time, they added, the President of the Supreme Court undertook all necessary measures to ensure the lawful, stable, and uninterrupted operation of the Court of Appeal, with the aim of preserving continuity and the efficient functioning of the judicial system.
