Bail of €1,199,000 rejected for Milivoje Katnić

The High Court rejected the bail of €1,199,000 that the family of the retired Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnić had offered in real estate so that he could defend himself from freedom during the further course of the proceedings. Several members of Katnić’s family offered their properties.
The High Court confirmed to the ETV Portal that bail for Katnić had been denied.
Katnić’s defense attorney, Ljubomir Raković, told our media outlet that he could confirm they had filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision within the prescribed deadline and that the Court of Appeal would decide on it.
According to the indictment of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office, Katnić is charged with being a member of an alleged group formed by former high-ranking police official Zoran Lazović, and whose member, according to prosecutor Miloš Šoškić, also became Special Prosecutor Saša Čađenović. The prosecution accuses Katnić, Lazović, and Čađenović of subordinating their official positions to the Kavač criminal clan and acting in its interest.
On the other hand, Katnić, Lazović, and Čađenović have rejected all allegations of the special prosecutor and pointed out that they prosecuted the very top of the Kavač criminal group - Radoje Zvicer and Slobodan Kašćelan, who are considered its leaders, as well as all high-ranking members of that clan. The evidence presented at the trial before the panel of Judge Veljko Radovanović undermines prosecutor Šoškić’s claim that members of the Kavač group were protected from criminal prosecution. All police officers who testified confirmed the defense of Katnić, Lazović, and Čađenović that there were never privileged individuals, whether from the Kavač or the Škaljari clan.
Katnić and Lazović were arrested on April 14, 2024, and have been in custody since then. Čađenović was arrested in December 2022 and spent 19 months in pre-trial detention. After leaving the Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions on July 11, 2024, Čađenović was placed under house arrest, which was lifted on October 29, 2025.
