The European Commission (EC) will not impose restrictions on Montenegro’s right to veto after it becomes a member of the European Union, Television Vijesti was unofficially informed in Brussels, one day before the publication of a new roadmap for the most advanced candidate countries for membership.

As it was told to Television Vijesti, the European Commission is thereby safeguarding the full equality of all EU member states and will not resort to restrictions on that right in the case of Montenegro, as the most likely next member.

Some analysts, as well as political circles in Brussels and the region, predicted that Montenegro could face a ten-year restriction on its right to veto, as a means of protecting the European Union’s system from possible unresolved disputes within new member states that could threaten its stability.
