Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs stresses that „speculation, media interpretations or domestic political debates cannot and must not artificially create problems between our two countries“

Hoxha: Albania is not part of any destabilising scenario in Montenegro

Although no formal accusation has been made against Albania, I want to strongly and clearly emphasise that Albania neither is nor can be part of any destabilising scenario, either in Montenegro, a neighbouring country, friend, partner and NATO ally with which we share the same project of EU membership, or anywhere else – Hoxha said

Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha said that Albania „neither is nor can be part of any destabilising scenario“ after Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić spoke about the alleged involvement of officials from „at least two countries in the region“ in coordinated hybrid activities.

In a post on the social media platform X, Hoxha said he had seen the statement by Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, as well as various media interpretations and allusions that followed.

- Media reports are part of the public debate. We read and analyse them with due attention, but we take them with the necessary degree of caution, especially when they contain differing or contradictory interpretations - Hoxha wrote.

He stressed that no formal accusation had been made against Albania, but emphasised that his country could not be part of destabilising activities.

- Although no formal accusation has been made against Albania, I want to strongly and clearly emphasise that Albania neither is nor can be part of any destabilising scenario, either in Montenegro, a neighbouring country, friend, partner and NATO ally with which we share the same project of EU membership, or anywhere else - he said.

According to Hoxha, Albania invests daily in cooperation, mutual understanding, regional stability and development, as well as in broader European and Euro-Atlantic cooperation.

Hoxha added that „speculation, media interpretations or the domestic political debates of a neighbouring country cannot and must not artificially create problems between our two countries“.

He said that the two countries are „in constant contact, at all levels“, adding that, in this case, he had communicated with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Nik Gjeljoshaj.

Hoxha also called on political actors to seek the necessary information from Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in order, as he put it, to avoid unnecessary debates and prevent the country’s foreign policy from becoming the subject or instrument of internal party debates and agendas.

- Foreign policy always requires calmness, maturity and responsibility - Hoxha concluded.
