Lazović rejects lawyers’ request to seek release from detention; Jovanović: He wants everything to be heard and debated in court

Former senior police official Zoran Lazović said that, for the fifth time, he had rejected a request by his defence lawyer, attorney Zoran Piperović, to seek his release from detention.

- On Friday, I rejected my lawyer Piperović’s request to seek the lifting of my detention. If the lawyers do so without my consent, I said that I would ask you, the court, not to grant their request - Lazović said at a hearing before the High Court in Podgorica.

The trial of Lazović, retired Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnić and suspended prosecutor Saša Čađenović continued today before the High Court in Podgorica, with the reading of documentary evidence.

One of Lazović’s defence lawyers, attorney Stefan Jovanović, said that the evidence being presented did not in any way incriminate Lazović, while pointing out that he had remained in detention throughout that period.

- And he does not allow his lawyers to seek the lifting of his detention because he wants everything to be heard and debated in the courtroom. He also wants to emerge from these proceedings after the decision has been delivered - Jovanović added.
