Milatović's Office: Land registry clearly shows the state owns the Kruševac complex and it must remain the property of all citizens

The Office of Montenegro's President, Jakov Milatović, stated that the state is the owner of the Kruševac complex, as clearly confirmed by the land registry.

- The land registry is unequivocal. Montenegro is the owner of the Kruševac complex, including the more than 1,000-square-metre castle housing the Museum of Contemporary Art and nearly 35,000 square metres of adjoining land that now forms a public park. This is protected cultural heritage, a public space, and property worth millions - the President's Office said in a post on X.

The Office recalled that the Constitution requires the protection of such property, while the Law on the Protection of Cultural Property explicitly stipulates that immovable cultural assets owned by the state cannot be alienated or transferred into private ownership.

- The park where our children play and the castle that belongs to all of Montenegro cannot become the private property of individuals. Citizens entrusted Members of Parliament with a mandate to protect the public interest and state property - the statement said.

The President's Office added that particular responsibility lies with those who gained public trust by promising to end the decades-long practice of transferring state-owned assets to privileged individuals.

- Tomorrow, they have the opportunity to fulfil that promise. We therefore call on Members of Parliament not to adopt this law and to preserve the castle and the park as the property of all citizens of Montenegro - the post concluded.
