Vujović: Vučić wants to push Montenegro back to the early 1990s through Knežević and Mandić - the manuscript of Greater Serbia's politics and a time bomb for destabilization

The President of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and one of the leaders of the European Alliance Ivan Vujović told Portal ETV that everything happening around the wastewater collector in Botun, coming from part of the ruling authorities, is nothing but a farce.

- By putting forward demands for constitutional changes and raising issues of language, the flag, and citizenship, the essential agenda that will be pushed throughout 2026 by Vučić’s Trojan horses, Milan Knežević and Andrija Mandić, has been exposed - Vujović told Portal ETV.

He emphasized that both Andrija Mandić and Milan Knežević are playing the same game of obstructing Montenegro’s path toward the European Union.

- Both Mandić and Knežević are playing the same game of obstructing Montenegro’s EU path, even though Mandić is trying, on the one hand, to support Knežević, while on the other hand pretending to be a peacemaker and an alleged factor of stability - Vujović said.

He noted that it is not easy to predict the outcome of this political game, particularly in the context of a possible withdrawal from government by Knežević.

- It is not easy to predict the outcome of this game in terms of Knežević leaving the government and what Vučić will ultimately assess as being better from the standpoint of their shared goal - Vujović said.

He stressed that the leader of the so-called „Serbian world“ („srpskog sveta“ is aware that time is running out.

- The leader of the „Serbian world“ is definitely aware that time is slipping away and that he must act more aggressively through his outposts in Montenegro, because we have entered 2026, when it will become completely clear whether there are prospects for Montenegro’s rapid accession to the EU - Vujović emphasized for Portal ETV.

According to him, this is why an ultimatum has been issued to the Government, and road blockades are being announced.

- Road blockades are emerging, or rather being announced, which unmistakably remind of the infamous log revolutions from the early 1990s, a trademark of the Greater Serbian politics of that time - Vujović said.

He underlined that the fact that Aleksandar Vučić is commenting from the United Arab Emirates on Montenegro’s political dynamics down to the smallest details shows that the political stakes will be raised to the maximum.

- Identity-related issues are that political time bomb meant to explode, polarize society, and produce instability in Montenegro, that is, an environment in which it would be impossible to implement the European agenda - Vujović said.

He added that the role of the leaders of the former Democratic Front is now more than clear.

- Anyone who, after all this, does not understand the role and function of the leaders of the former Democratic Front will never understand anything about politics - Vujović stressed to Portal ETV.

Finally, Vujović assessed that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and the Europe Now Movement have an opportunity to rid themselves of part of the problem within the ruling coalition.

- Spajić and the Europe Now Movement now have a chance, by completely ignoring Knežević’s demands, to free themselves of at least one problem in the government. This will be a kind of test for the Prime Minister, who, by marginalizing Knežević, would send a message to Andrija Mandić as well and thereby show that he wants to escape the trap he fell into when he allowed them into power - he said.

Vujović warned that any concessions on identity-related issues would have serious consequences.

- Any yielding to their demands on identity issues would, I fear, definitively bury Montenegro’s chances of closing the negotiating chapters by the end of 2026 - Vujović concluded for Portal ETV.
